Hello my name is Martin Burge I am a married man with one child. I was born in 1960 to a dairy farming family in Halsinger near to Braunton. North Devon. In 1976 I started work in Newark, milking 200 cows three times a day in a team of 4 men. After two years I worked at swimbridge milking 100 cows on my own. I then moved on to work in the slaughter houses in Combe Martin and Fremington, After which I went to work in a foundry for what was supposed to have been short term - after twenty four years and working my way up to supervisor of two departments. Overseeing a team of twelve to fourteen people I was made redundant. I moved straight in to work at another foundry as a production engineer. It was whilst here that I realised that I needed to get back to farming, or more to the point milking. In 2006 I went on my own and have not regetted it for one minute. Since I started to relief milk I have built up a No of customers around the local area milking in various types of parlours. Milking from 40 too 250 cows

My hobbies include shooting and training gundogs. In the past I have enjoyed the work more with spaniels than with any other breed. I like to beat or pickup at most of the local shoots. But most of all I like to do field trials. I always train all my dogs with the intention of trailing them. I’m also on the committee of the North Devon Working Gundog Club; for which I help run the summer spaniel training classes. I like all forms of game shooting from the walk-up day on my own to loading on big double gun days. I also like to do all types of clay pigeon shooting.
